Charlotte, NC (March 15, 2010) – For the second consecutive year, Robby Gordon and his Monster Energy / Toyo Tires Trophy Truck finish second in the San Felipe 250. The team’s second-place finish was not easy to come by as a left rear shock broke just past Race Mile 35. For what seemed to be a disastrous turn of events early in the race, the championship-winning team worked quickly to come up with a plan to change the shock as expeditiously as possible at Race Mile 44. Knowing that time was of the essence to get Gordon back on the course, the team hustled and were only down a total of 13 minutes. As a result of the change, several trucks passed Gordon during the stop, leaving him 17 minutes behind. He and navigator, Andy Grider would make up valuable time as they made their way over the rough terrain of San Felipe’s washes and valleys. By Race Mile 160 Gordon was only 11 minutes behind the overall leader and scored in seventh position. Luckily for the Monster team, the turbulent terrain resulted in mechanical failures on many of the trophy truck entries. As the duo was making up ground on the leader, they experienced another issue around Race Mile 170 when the right rear shock failed due to the rough terrain. Despite the shock issue, the No. 1 Monster Energy / Toyo Tires trophy truck was only seven minutes behind eventual winner Jesse Jones at Race Mile 200, which was not that bad considering the adversity that the team faced during the race.

“Our Monster Energy / Toyo Tires truck got off to a great start, but unfortunately we would end up breaking our left rear shock at the beginning of the race,” commented Gordon. For something like that to happen, one would think that your day would be ruined, but the team made a great recovery and changed the shock fast. Later on our right rear shock would go out as well, and it would be hard for us to gain any ground through the bumps. During the last stretch, all we could really hope for is for other trucks to fall out. It’s pretty amazing to see what this course does to these trucks, and we beat a lot of guys with broken equipment. We’ll change some pressures in our shocks and be ready to repeat as winners in the Baja 500.”

After the second event in the 2010 SCORE season, Robby Gordon would also gain ground in the point standings leaving San Felipe in the fifth position, 26 points behind overall leader Andy McMillin. Gordon commented, “As far as points go it looks like we’ll be in the top-5 leaving here but we still have a lot of more racing to do before it’s all said and done. I’m sure Andy McMillin will be tough to beat, but we come out here to win so I look forward to coming back to Mexico in June for the Baja 500.”

ROBBY GORDON & MONSTER ENERGY VIDEO CHANNEL

2010 SCORE SAN FELIPE 250 RACE PREVIEW

Charlotte, NC (March 11, 2010) – During a rare off-weekend in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule, Robby Gordon will spend his time racing across Mexico’s Baja Peninsula as a part of the Tecate SCORE International Off-Road Series. As a two-time class winner, Gordon hopes to improve on his 2009 second-place finish and to bring home a victory for the Monster Energy / Toyo Tires team.

In last year’s edition of the San Felipe 250, Gordon led the event early, but fell behind when the air jack and mechanical jack both failed during a pit stop. Gordon was forced to drive his trophy truck a mile and a half on a flat tire, until he found some locals with a floor jack that helped him change the tire. Despite falling 22 minutes behind, Gordon was able to make up half of his deficit to finish the event in second-place just 11 minutes behind the leader. Gordon later went on to win the 2009 SCORE International Off-Road Series Season Championship.

This year, Gordon will pilot the No. 1 Monster Energy / Toyo Tires Chevy CK1500 Trophy Truck in the 24th Annual MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 this weekend. Gordon will race in a field of approximately 275 competitors from nearly ten different countries and 25 states. The race will take place over a narrow 248-mile loop that extends north of San Felipe and then south adjacent to the Sea of Cortez. The extreme course requires drivers to cross three of the most picturesque and challenging washes in Baja, as well as canyons filled with silt, jagged rocks and narrow passes between rock walls. Throughout the event, drivers will need to pass through four physical checkpoint locations before making their way across the finish line at the famed San Felipe Arches.

The trophy truck class will begin its trek across the Baja Peninsula at 10:00 a.m. PST on Saturday, March 13, with one vehicle beginning the timed-event every 30 seconds. Gordon will roll off second on Saturday morning in effort to capture this year’s San Felipe 250 title. Drivers will have a maximum of 11 hours to complete the course.

“Our Sprint Cup program has had a really tough start in 2010,” commented Gordon. “We simply haven’t had any luck, but I’m hoping that we can change that this weekend and boost the spirits of the entire Robby Gordon Motorsports organization. Our Monster Energy / Toyo Tires trophy truck was extremely fast here last year, and I’m positive that my team has prepared another vehicle capable of pulling the same speeds here this year. As long as we can avoid any trouble, we should be able to bring home a strong finish at San Felipe. Off-road racing and the SCORE desert series are two things that I am extremely passionate about. I can’t wait to get this race started!”

Atlanta, GA (March 7, 2010) – A blown tire on lap 3 led to an immediate accident and an early exit for Robby Gordon and the BAM Racing, Blake Shelton Toyota Camry.

Race morning started out cheerful and upbeat, with most of the Warner Music Nashville crew feeling loose – anticipating a strong run and a good finish. Final practice had ended with Robby being very happy with the car’s handling and looking forward to his prospects; “We may not have a race-winning car, but we definitely have a top 15 car!”

As if psychic, veteran crew chief Larry Carter was the only member of the No. 7 team that seemed concerned. When asked why he wasn’t smiling Larry responded, “I’ve just got 900 different things running through my head; all the what-ifs depending on what may happen during the race.”
When the field fired their engines and began rolling off pit road, BAM Racing owner Beth Ann Morgenthau encouraged the team, “Good luck today guys. Do a good job for us, thank you very much!”
Robby replied, “You got it, Beth Ann!”

With Robby approaching his pit stall, spotter Ron prompted, “Ten away” (meaning Robby was ten pits away from his assigned space).

Then Larry picked him up as he came closer, “Spot 5 right there . . . here we are.”
As is typical, Robby spent this relatively quiet time to try to improve his car, saying “I got a minor point. On the heel support brace, my right heel gets caught on it just a little bit. We need to check that.”
Iain Watt replied, “10-4.”

Larry then asked, “Is your pit road speed box working?” Robby reported back, “They’re working and we’re operable. All systems go.” Ron, the spotter reminded Robby of a note that NASCAR had stressed earlier in the Driver’s Meeting, “Remember on the start to stay in line until after you cross the Start/Finish Line.” Robby replied, “10-4.” Then . . . “I have switched to Battery 1, copy?” Larry confirmed, “Copy.” Robby added, “Please make a note of that every time.” Larry reassured him, “10-4.”
Just before the green flag, Larry Carter added his own words of encouragement to the crew, “Like we talked about guys (in the team meeting held one hour prior to the start of the race in the team transporter) be on your toes and be ready for anything.”

When the green flag flew, Ron jumped into high gear informing Robby where other cars were positioned in relation to his car: “High” . . . “Got one inside.” . . . “Three wide there!”
After starting 39th, Robby moved up to 36th at the end of lap one. When Greg Biffle passed him low out of turn four, Robby reported, “When he got down underneath me it got tight.” Then on lap two, with a little bit more urgency in his voice he added, “Got tight on corner exit.”

Then, on the beginning of lap three just as he was “thinking about turning in” the left rear tire came apart and violently turned the car sharply to the left. Still traveling at over 190mph and now completely out of control, all Gordon could do was hold on tight as the Warner Music Nashville Camry slammed into the wall, badly mangling the body beyond repair.

Ron immediately asked, “Are you alright there Robby?”
Robby replied, “It’s a crying (frigging) shame.”
Ron added, “It looked like the whole casing came off the left rear.”
Robby responded, “(Crap) – no luck at ALL!”

As the race progressed, ours was not the only car that experienced tire problems. Our pressures were all at or above the NASCAR-mandated minimums, but “stuff” happens. In auto racing there are no “do-overs”, there are no time-outs and there are no substitutions. One stroke of bad luck and you’re out of the race and a brand spanking new, gleaming, immaculately prepared racecar is completely destroyed. This can be a cruel sport at times.

For the team, they had one of two duties. One group busied themselves with loading up all the pit equipment and the pit box. The other group had the thankless task of cutting parts and pieces off the wiped out car so that it could roll and be loaded up on the transporter. Then our truck driver, Randy could take the expensive carcass back to Robby Gordon Motorsports to be stripped down and completely rebuilt.

The next race for the BAM Racing Warner Music Nashville Camry will be the Goody’s 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN in two weeks on March 21.

KOBALT TOOLS 500 - RACE PREVIEW

Charlotte, NC (March 4, 2010) – The No. 7 Warner Music Nashville / Blake Shelton Camry rolls in to Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend with Robby Gordon behind the wheel. After a rough weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Gordon is ready to turn around his luck and jumpstart the 2010 season. As a part of their alliance for the 2010 season, the Warner Music Nashville / Blake Shelton entry will be a joint effort between Robby Gordon Motorsports and BAM Racing.

Robby’s Thoughts – “Atlanta was one of the earliest NASCAR tracks that I was able to find success on,” said Gordon. “My only pole in the Sprint Cup Series came at Atlanta, and we’ve been very competitive there in the past. It’s an extremely fast track. One of the biggest challenges about Atlanta is having the setup right on the car as soon as the green flag falls, which we have worked really hard on this week. I hope that all the hard work in the shop pays off this weekend.”

Career Highlights from Atlanta Motor Speedway – Since 1997, Robby Gordon has made 18 starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway. During his debut, Gordon secured the pole position and went on to lead 42 laps throughout the race. Gordon has been extremely competitive during his career at Atlanta Motor Speedway and has successfully completed 99% of all possible laps. In his last appearance at the intermediate track, Gordon raced his way to a 16th-place finish after competing in the World Off-Road Championship series in Crandon, Wis., earlier in the day.

Race Coverage – NASCAR fans can watch the Kobalt Tools 500 live on FOX on Sunday afternoon, March 7th, beginning at 1:00 p.m. EST. PRN and SIRIUS Satellite Radio will carry a live radio broadcast of the race beginning at 12:00 p.m. EST. (February 22, 2010) – Robby Gordon Motorsports and BAM Racing debuted the No. 7 Warner Music Nashville / Whitney Duncan Camry this weekend at Auto Club Speedway with driver Robby Gordon behind the wheel. Before being involved in a last-lap incident in the season-opening Daytona 500, Gordon was headed for a top-15 finish. The team headed to California with hopes for a strong showing in Gordon’s home state until the No. 7 suffered an untimely engine failure.

Not long after Sunday’s 250-lap race began, Gordon called in to his crew to report a tight handling condition on his Camry. The California native was struggling to navigate the Warner Music Nashville / Whitney Duncan Toyota around the turns on the 2.0-mile oval. There was a long green-flag run at the beginning of the race. With no cautions in sight, the field began making green-flag pit stops on Lap 37. By lap 38, Gordon was on pit road for fresh tires, fuel, an air pressure adjustment and a chassis adjustment.

While the adjustments did not help the Warner Music Nashville / Whitney Duncan Camry as much as Gordon needed, they were a change in the right direction. Gordon returned to pit road during the next two caution periods on Lap 57 and Lap 92 in order to continue working on the handling of the No. 7 Camry.

Shortly after the fifth caution period of the day, Gordon called in to the crew on Lap 204 with urgency in his voice to report major overheating. Gordon knew he would have to bring his Camry down pit road to be inspected by his crew. The team worked quickly to check the grill for debris and remove tape from the nose of the Warner Music Nashville / Whitney Duncan Camry.

During the sixth caution of the day, Gordon was once again forced to come down pit road for the team to address the overheating problem. During the stop, the team hooked Gordon’s car up to the cool down unit. Gordon quickly returned to the track to avoid losing another lap to the leaders. While the trip to pit road did help cool the Warner Music Nashville / Whitney Duncan Camry, it did not cool Gordon’s engine enough.

On Lap 230, just one lap after the restart and a mere 20 laps from the end of the race, Gordon called into his crew to relay that the engine had blown. Gordon was able to make it back around the 2.0-mile oval without requiring NASCAR to display the caution flag. When the checkered flag waved to end the 250-lap event, Gordon was scored in the 33rd position.

“Today was just a frustrating day,” said Gordon. “We struggled early with the handling on the No. 7 then we started to overheat. After looking at the car more thoroughly, we had some debris in our radiator that caused the motor to blow. We did everything we could to avoid having the motor blow up by coming down pit road to pull tape and then using the cool down unit. But with so much green flag racing, it was easy for anyone to blow their motor. We weren’t the only team to have an engine failure, but that still doesn’t mean it is ok. Our team has put a lot of work into preparing for the 2010 season; now we just need a little bit of luck to find success this season.”

Next weekend the Sprint Cup Series travels to Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the return of the No. 7 Monster Energy Toyota Camry. FOX will air a live television broadcast of the event beginning at 3:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, February 28. Meanwhile, MRN and SIRIUS Satellite Radio both provide live radio coverage of the race. Qualifying for the race will be aired on SPEED Channel beginning at 6:30 p.m. EST on Friday, February 26th. (February 15, 2010) – The 52nd Running of the Daytona 500 marked the debut of the No. 7 Monster Energy Camry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. With Robby Gordon behind the wheel, it appeared as though the Monster Energy team was poised for a great finish in Sunday’s Daytona 500. The team was among the fastest cars in practice sessions throughout Speedweeks, and they knew the Monster Energy Camry was capable of a great finish in Sunday’s race.

When the green flag fell to start the Daytona 500, Gordon immediately began charging through the field in his No. 7 Monster Energy Camry. By the time the first caution came out on Lap 7, Gordon had already raced his way up to the 17th position. Gordon’s Camry was handling perfectly throughout the opening laps, so when he came down pit road during the first caution the crew simply serviced the car with four fresh tires and fuel.

Gordon was happy with the Monster Energy Camry and called into the crew to say, “It does drive a lot better today than it did on Thursday.” For most of the first half of the event, Gordon was able to pick whichever lane looked fast and move with the pack toward the front of the field.

Gordon waited longer than most of the front runners to make his first pit stop under green. In doing so, he lost valuable time to the leaders, but he was also able to gain five bonus points. Gordon passed Joey Logano when entering the pits on Lap 51 and was scored as the official lap leader.

When Gordon left pit road after his stop, the cars he pitted with were spaced too far apart and the Monster Energy Camry struggled to return to the lead pack. Gordon caught up with a few other drivers just behind the lead draft, and they were able to form their own pack to avoid losing too much time to the leaders until the caution came back out.

When the third caution came out on Lap 77, the No. 7 Monster Energy Camry was holding its own racing in the top 20. During the next run, most of the field began complaining about a loose handling condition around the 2.5-mile tri-oval and Gordon was no exception.

Real havoc ensued around Daytona International Speedway when a pothole opened up in the lower groove of the racetrack between Turns 1 and 2. With just 78 laps left in the 2010 Daytona 500, NASCAR displayed the red flag while crews worked to repair the track. After an hour and forty minutes, drivers were given the command to once again fire the engines. Gordon brought the Monster Energy Camry back down pit road for a chassis adjustment to help tighten the entry.

After just 38 laps, the red flag was once again displayed for the same pothole which reopened. The second red flag period lasted approximately 45 minutes and guaranteed that the Daytona 500 would finish at night, which meant many crews had to make major changes to alter the handling of their racecars. The Monster Energy team made another chassis adjustment to Gordon’s car and sent Gordon back on to the track.

When the race was restarted on Lap 168, Gordon raced his way back through the field to once again return to the top 20. Going into the second, and what turned out to be the final, attempt at a green-white-checkered finish, it appeared that Gordon was going to have a strong finish in the Daytona 500. He had avoided all of the on-track incidents and was solidly racing inside the top-15.

Unfortunately when the No. 24 got loose in Turn 3, the No. 7 Monster Energy Camry had nowhere to go. Since it was the final lap and near the back of the pack, NASCAR did not call a caution for the incident. As a result of the last lap accident, Gordon finished the Daytona 500 in the 28th position.

“I am obviously disappointed with our finish today,” said Gordon. “I was so excited to make the 2010 debut with Monster Energy on the hood of our car, and I really wanted to bring home a great finish for them. My guys put a lot of hard work, time and effort into building us a brand new Camry for the Daytona 500, and I’m really upset that we’re bringing it home damaged. Our car was capable of a much better finish than 28th. I really believe that I could have raced the Monster Energy Camry into the top 15 before we reached the stripe, but instead we got caught up in an accident. We didn’t do anything wrong; we just got caught up in someone else’s wreck. Unfortunately that happens at Daytona.”

Next weekend, NASCAR will make its 2010 season debut on the West Coast, as the stars and cars of the Sprint Cup Series travel to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. After securing the SCORE International Off-Road Racing 2009 Championship in the Monster Energy / Toyo Tires Trophy Truck, Robby Gordon and the Robby Gordon Off-Road team quickly turned their focus to the 2010 Dakar Rally, which took place January 2-16 in South America. In that event, Gordon raced his Monster Energy / Toyo Tires HUMMER across the deserts of Argentina and Chile where he won Stage 4 and finished 8th-place overall in the grueling 14-stage event. Immediately after crossing the finish line in the Dakar Rally, Gordon headed to Laughlin, Nev., where he raced the Monster Energy / Toyo Tires trophy truck in the Laughlin Desert Challenge for the SCORE International Off-Road Racing Series. Monster Energy – Robby Gordon Motorsports is proud to announce an extension of their partnership with Monster Energy, who will serve as the primary sponsor for the Daytona 500. Monster Energy and Robby Gordon already have a well-developed partnership through Robby’s off-road endeavors. Monster Energy currently serves as the one of the primary sponsors on Gordon’s Trophy Truck and HUMMER.

Robby’s Remarks – “I had a lot of fun during the NASCAR off-season,” commented Gordon. “It gave me a chance to return to my off-road racing roots, secure a championship and celebrate victory with the Robby Gordon Off-Road team. Even as much as I love off-road racing, I’m ready for the NASCAR Season to get underway. We are very fortunate to have Monster Energy on the hood of our Camry for the Daytona 500, and I’m excited to extend our partnership with them. Monster Energy is a great brand that I love representing. We have been very strong at Daytona in the past, so I hope that we can bring home a great finish for Monster Energy’s 2010 NASCAR debut.” Past Daytona Performances – Robby Gordon made his Daytona debut in the 1991 Daytona 500. Since that time, Gordon has competed in 20 events at the 2.5-mile superspeedway, and has recorded top-ten finishes in 15% of his starts. In the 2003 Daytona 500, Gordon recorded his best qualifying position in 3rd place and went on to finish the race in 6th place. Gordon later tied his record finish of 6th in the 2008 July event at Daytona.

Media Opportunity – Robby Gordon will be driving his 2010 NASCAR legal/street-legal two-seat Monster Energy show car during Speed Weeks.
