“Despite a disappointing finish in the Daytona 500 earlier this year, we are looking forward to heading back to Daytona this weekend. Given our performance in the 2008 restrictor-plate races, we still have something left to prove at the remaining superspeedway races this year. As always, my goal will be “avoid the big one” and go racing when it matters. If all goes according to plan, it should be a good race at the end and a great points day for the No. 7 MAPEI team this weekend.”

“The rain and changing track conditions throughout the weekend made it very difficult to get the car set up for today’s race,” said Gordon. “I believe we had a car capable of running in the top-15 today. Strategizing isn’t easy any race weekend, and it really isn’t easy when you don’t know the distance of the race. Regardless, we learned a lot about how our car reacted to different changes. Hopefully we’ll be able to take what we learned and come back here in the fall to have a really strong run.”

“I love coming to race at Infineon every year,” Gordon commented. “It’s a great course that gives the No. 7 Jim Beam / Menards team a chance to show how competitive our race team really is. I’ve always loved running on road courses for the variety that it provides the drivers and fans. Our team puts in a lot of effort to make sure that we’re competitive on these tracks – from testing to optimizing our race setup and strategy. I feel like we have a good chance this weekend. There is nothing that I would like to do more than drive the Jim Beam / Menards Camry in to Victory Lane at a race in my home state where Toyota is the title sponsor.”

“I’m very proud of our efforts this weekend in Michigan,” said Gordon. “We’ve done a lot of work to improve our intermediate program, and it’s nice to see our efforts start to pay off. We unloaded with a strong car and had a great qualifying run – that’s really a key to success with these cars. We finished 3rd at Lowe’s a few weeks ago and had a strong run today. Hopefully, we can build upon that momentum going into this weekend’s road course in Sonoma. We have put a lot of effort into our road course program, and I just hope that we’ll be able to bring home RGM’s first Cup victory.”
