“I want to thank all our sponsors, our partners, and everyone that helped in the success of this year’s Rally. We couldn’t have done it alone, so I want you each to know how much we appreciate everything. We are already starting to plan for next year’s Dakar Rally while this year’s is fresh in our minds. The rumor is that we may be back in Argentina, so I feel confident that we can come back and win next year,” concluded Gordon on his appreciation for everyone’s support of this year’s race.

“Obviously, I wish that the No. 309 Monster Energy Toyo Tires Hummer would have had a better outcome today. Regardless of a pesky little rock getting in our way, I am still happy with where we stand going into the last stage tomorrow. Even though we haven’t won any specials yet this year, we are still here competing for the Dakar Rally title and that is what that matters. This race is about survival and preparation, and Team Dakar USA has excelled at both. We have been able to address the problems, fix them, and continue forward. Both cars are still in the race, and I couldn’t be more proud of the Team Dakar USA program,” commented Robby Gordon.

Team Dakar USA Stage 12 Update: Fiambala to La Rioja

“I know that I keep saying this every day, but it was another good day for Team Dakar USA despite getting stuck late in the stage. We got trapped on top of a bed of rocks, which burnt the clutch. As a result, we were only able to drive the Monster Energy Hummer in first gear to the finish, which was about 80 km away. I bet that we lost about 45 minutes easy, but the leaders only beat us by 25. All in all, we got another solid third place finish. I think that is the fourth time this year that we finished third. We are right where we want to be going into the last days of the Rally, so I would not count out Team Dakar USA just yet. Until Carlos Sainz rolled his race vehicle in a ravine today, he had run a flawless race and everyone would have thought that he had it locked up. It is the Dakar Rally and anything can happen,” commented Robby Gordon, driver of the No. 309 Monster Energy Toyo Tires Hummer.

Copiapo, Chile (January 14, 2009) – Stage 11 has been cancelled due to heavy fog forecasted along the entire route of today’s route from Copiapo to Fiambala. Below is a statement put out by the A.S.O. earlier this morning:
“The day’s special stage has been cancelled. As the weather forecast announces heavy fog on the whole route of the stage and as the timing of the stage cannot be altered due to the crossing of the Andes and the crossing of the border between Chile and Argentina, the organizers have decided to cancel the portion of stage 11 between Copiapo and Fiambala that should have been against the clock. The participants will be getting to the Fiambala bivouac in liaison starting at 8:00 AM.”

“Today was another great showing for Team Dakar USA. The No. 309 Monster Energy Toyo Tires Hummer finished the day second, while the No. 324 Vanguard Hummer finished 10th. Andy Grider, my navigator, did a great job today leading the Monster Hummer around Copiapo loop. The car ran flawlessly and is in perfect shape, so there will only be the normal nightly maintenance performed,” commented an excited Robby Gordon.
