A wreck in Thursday’s Busch
practice meant a long night of repairs to the No. 55 Motorola Ford Fusion. Despite
the obstacles the team faced, Gordon qualified 14th for Saturday’s
Orbitz 300.
Laps after the green flag waved, Gordon
thought he might have a tire going down. The team caught a big break due to an
early caution on lap four. This enabled the team to stop for four fresh tires. Gordon
raced conservatively throughout the day knowing that he needed to make his move
towards the front at the end of the race. However, Gordon’s car began running
hot late in the race, causing him to drop out of the main draft to put clean
air on the nose of the car. Despite an overheating car, Gordon crossed the
finish line for the Orbitz 300 in 11th place.
Gordon and the team were pleased
with the efforts of the No. 55 Motorola Ford Fusion in Saturday’s race, and
they look forward to their next NASCAR Busch Series race in Atlanta
with Verizon Wireless as the primary sponsor.
